Finnish-smartphone maker Nokia has launched two new Windows Phone 8 smartphones, the Nokia Lumia 720 and the Nokia Lumia 520 in India and now, Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 powered smartphonesare available across all price points in the Indian market, starting from as low as Rs.10,000 for the Lumia 520 going as high as Rs.35,000 for the Lumia 920.
With Windows Phone 8 as it’s ultimate weapon to fight for dominance in the smartphone space, which is currently dominated by Android smartphones in entry-level, mid-range and high-end range and even by Apple to some extent, the going isn’t easy for Nokia.

We’re not really a fan of the higher-end Lumia smartphones like the Lumia 920 only because of it’s exuberant pricing and the fact that every Windows Phone 8 smartphone would give you more or less a similar experience, so it doesn’t really makes sense to spend so much on it. Also, since Windows Phone 8 isn’t as refined as it’s competition and even the lack of some of the important apps, makes the platform less attractive.
However, when it comes to mid-range smartphones, it’s a totally different ball game because here, the Android smartphones might not be able to give you a better user experience. Firstly, the most important thing going in favor of Windows Phone 8 is the level of smoothness, which might be difficult to find in an Android smartphone at this price point. This is exactly where Nokia pits the Lumia 720 as probably one of the best smartphones under Rs.20,000 (that’s what we expect the pricing to be).

One thing that the majority of people would agree on, is the fact that the Lumia range of smartphones have a fresh look and feel, and they clearly stand apart from everything else that’s in the market today. The same is the case with Nokia Lumia 720, which feels quite premium and not to mention, a lot more expensive than it actually is.
Coming to the specifications, the Nokia Lumia 720 boasts of a 4.3-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. The smartphone is powered by a 1GHz Dual-Core Qualcomm MSM8227 processor paired with 512MB of RAM which should be able to give the users a near lag-free experience.

One of the key aspects of Nokia Lumia 720  is it’s 6.7 megapixel primary camera that has a large f/1.9 lens and Carl Zeiss optics, and Nokia claims that the Lumia 720 would be able to give a high-end camera performance and excellent images in low-light conditions. The smartphone also gets a 1.3 megapixel camera with wide-angle lens at the front. On the storage front, the Nokia Lumia 720 comes with 8GB of internal storage which can further be expanded by up to 64GB using a micro-SD card.
With a 2,000mAh battery under the hood, the Nokia Lumia 720 should easily last a full day’s usage
Nokia has also tried to customize the UI a bit by pre-loading the device with some of it’s exclusive Apps like Nokia City Lens. Also, Nokia has teamed up with BigFlix to provide free unlimited movie viewing for three months along with the Nokia Lumia 720.
With whatever time we’ve spent with the Nokia Lumia 720, it looks like the smartphone will easily be one of the best available under the Rs.20,000 price point but we’ll hold our verdict till we are out with a full review of the Nokia Lumia 720.
